BBC: "Tate announces female artist first with 17th-Century portrait"

The BBC discusses a recent acquisition made by the Tate which is purportedly by Britain’s first professional female painter, Joan Carlile.

“Joan Carlile's Portrait of an Unknown Lady is the earliest work by a female artist to enter the Tate's collection.”
