Skill-Based Fine Art Education

In the last few decades there has been a dramatic increase in the number of ateliers, academies, and private studios that offer traditional, skill-based, fine art training. Today some of these programs are even accredited and one can receive credits towards their university degree. Even more inspiring still is that some universities are beginning to adopt this style of training as an alternative to their current approach, which often focuses on ideas rather than technical skill. Along with these ateliers and academies there are also numerous "workshops" which range in price and length and can be a good alternative if you are short on time or just want to get a feel for the approach of a certain painter. On top of these great in person options there are also countless video demonstrations and even online ateliers and academies. Needless to say, whatever your schedule or level of skill there is an educational option for you out there. There are even specific programs catered to children and adolescents. See our list of ateliers, academies and university programs here.
